How to write an essay.
I. Writtng an essay.
A. Have a Plan
a. Don't "write yourself into a corner." Know where your essay is headed. Don't just start typing.
B. Not Fancy outline.
C. Plan ahead and write 5 sentences, one for each paragraph.
a. 2. each body paragraph needs an example that proves the thesis, an explanantion of the example, and a quote from the book backing up the thesis. The quote doesn't have to be a direct quote that a character said. It can be something the narrator or author said.
II. Thesis
A. Idea or point you are trying to prove.
a. come up with ideas first
b. then write thesis.
c. Body paragraphs provide the evidence for thesis.

5 Conclusion.
First paragraph. Make Thesis statement (which is your argument) and preview the evidence.
1) NBECHS is the best high school to attend if you want to go to college -Thesis We investigate colleges, learn how to apply to college, fill out financial aid applications, and take community college classes. -- Preview
Each body paragraph talks about the evidence previewed in the introduction.
III. Conclusion
A. Restate thesis in different words.
B. Summarize essay.
C.NOTHING NEW!!
Quoting a Passage
A. Passages= Part of story etc.
B. When you're writing about a written piece, you must specifically refer to the written material to make it clear that someone else wrote it.
C. The Red Pony essay must include parenthetical citations of the page where the quote appears. Write the citations like this: xxxxx, Jody cried" (63). That means it was on page 63.
d. Your essay will include a Works Cited. Even though we are only citing one book (The Red Pony), we must fully give credit to the author.
